Our Programs
Head Start and Early Head Start are federally funded, comprehensive programs that serve pregnant women, infants, toddlers, preschool children, and their families.
Our programs promote school readiness by supporting each child’s educational, physical, social-emotional, and cognitive development. We also partner with families by providing parenting resources, connecting them with community services, and helping them work toward greater self-sufficiency. Children with disabilities receive individualized services and support to help them reach their full potential.
Head Start serves preschool-age children in center-based classrooms. Early Head Start serves pregnant women, infants, and toddlers through center-based classrooms, home-based services with regularly scheduled home visits, or a combination of both, depending on local program options.
Eligibility
As required by federal regulations, Head Start and Early Head Start primarily serve income-eligible families. Eligibility is generally based on the current federal poverty guidelines, although a limited number of children from families whose incomes exceed those guidelines may also qualify.
Children with documented disabilities receive special consideration, and enrollment decisions are based on each child and family’s individual needs. Multiple factors are considered during the selection process.
Recent Changes
July 9, 2026 — To best serve those communities, Anton Chico and Santa Rosa are now served by Early Head Start instead of Head Start.
